Once I saw this lovely picture, which was made my friend :iconedenianprince:, I just couldn't forget about this topic. And I'm really happy that he supported it. And, frankly, without knowing it, he gave me a kick in the ass, that I finally finished this theory :ᴅ
Merci, mon Prince! ;D

: My theory :

So, my theory about Erron Black's origin.

Lone Cowboy by Mardetonam

Everyone knows that Erron — cowboy. If he's a cowboy, then the Wild West, America. It's logical. But again, let's think about this.
Erron Black is a character from Earthrealm, there's no information about him. I don't claim that my theory is the ultimate truth, however, such theories can provide food for thought.

Let's go.

In Erron's ending in Arcade Ladder, we learned, that:
Nearly 150 years ago, Erron Black had been hired by Shang Tsung to assassinate an Earthrealm warrior

Pay attention to the numbers.

Let's take our year and subtract 150 years.

2015-150=1865

1865. Interesting.

Year of the end of the Сivil war
and, suddenly year of appearance the first cowboys.

Most future cowboys (about what even Western films sometimes say) fought on the Confederate side, i.e., Southern States.
The first cowboys have appeared in Texas (one of the CSA states), i.e., in theory, we can assume that Erron southerner and he fought in the Civil War.

CSA by Mardetonam

Where's he from? This is a question. I think he's from Southern states of the former CSA. Maybe, Texas. Or Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and others.

The Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865, so, Erron could fight (hence — experience with weapons).

My theory about the Erron's name suggests, that Erron has Irish roots. Most southerners in CSA had Irish roots~ (it's even mentioned in a remarkable book and movie "Gone with the Wind.").

Now we'll draw a little parallel in defense of this theory.

I very love Clint Eastwood and his movies and if Erron's image partly based on Clint, I decided to review some movies. The films mention Southerners, Confederate, Civil War. But amongst all the movies I want to highlight one film, that interested me and gave new food for thought.

The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Outlaw — familiar phrase, eh?

Erron-Black by Mardetonam

Peaceful farmer Josey Wales suffered by bandit attack of Northern-soldiers during the Civil War in the United States. His wife and child were killed, and he was obsessed with revenge, takes the side of the southerners. Southerners were defeated, but Josie did not lay down weapons. Now he is — the outlaw Josey Wales. Senator Lane puts a $5,000 bounty on Wales, who is now on the run from Union militia and bounty hunters.
Interesting, isn't it?

I'm not going to say and I cannot answer the question — does he have a family or not?, it doesn't matter. What is important: the fact that he was able to take part in the war.
The reasons can be different: from patriotism (we don't know what kind of person he was before visiting Outworld.) to the banal: material enrichment.

Okay, what's next, after the war? There are two options.

Assume, that:

  1. Erron like Josey, didn't lay down his weapons after the war and became an outlaw, pursuing some of his goals.
  2. Erron became a hired killer after the war.
The second option is closer to the truth, explain why.

The film draws attention to these 2 guys:

The film explains that they are the hired killers, they were left without means of livelihood and they are insanely hungry for money.
As we know, Erron is often called "The Bounty Hunter" and all of his replicas about the money confirm this х)

Combining both options, I can assume that, possible, after the end of the Civil War, Erron hasn't sworn allegiance to the United States (it was demonstrated in the film), became an outlaw and became a hired killer. Actually, what he loses if he's already an outlaw? Logically?

How Shang Tsung found him, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if Erron was like Elusive Joe from one popular anecdote:

A small town in a western american desert. Saloon. Two cowboys, a local and a visiting, are sitting and drinking whiskey. Suddenly, somebody blasts throught the street with wild speed, shooting from the revolvers in all directions.
Nobody in saloon pays attention. Visiting cowboy asks local cowboy:
— Bill?
— Yes, Garry.
— What was that?
— That was Elusive Joe, Garry
— Why do they call him Elusive Joe, Bill?
— Because noone has ever catched him..
— And why has noone ever catched him, Bill?
— Because nobody freaking needs him, Garry.

And because of it Erron moved to the Outworld to establish himself, lol xD

In short, I think:

Erron Black had fought in the Civil War (1861-1865). The reason why Erron went to war, I think patriotism (the atmosphere was conducive for this). After the defeat of Southerners Erron was disappointed in everything. He wasn't sworn in loyalty to the US and rushed into hiding (became outlaw) (drawing a parallel with the film). Since after the war he had a certain experience in the killings and experience with weapons, Erron became a hired killer, just to make money.

Next:

— Either Shang Tsung found him (I don't remember, he can move between worlds or not?) and he offered to make more money (and Erron agrees. It's no wonder — disappointment after the war + nothing kept him in Earthrealm).

— Or Erron somehow found himself in Outworld (I dunno, lol, maybe portals work somewhere.)he spent years wandering its vast territories, selling his amazing weaponry skills to local warlords (focusing on his biography in the game), and finally met with Shang Tsung — Erron had been hired by him to assassinate an Earthrealm warrior. In return, Shang had slowed Black's aging process, blah-blah-blah.

By the way, the only warrior from Earthrealm (whom Erron killed and whom we know) - Kobra, but it cannot be true, because in 1865 Kobra wasn't born, lol.

Update.

15/03/2017

Yeah, a little update, don't be surprised x)
In short, I decided to play MK ('cause I didn't play for 2 years), and because there were some new updates, like new characters, locations and stuff like this. What I noticed and why I update this post right now?
I had a random battle, Erron Black VS Leatherface, new DLC character from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise.

Guys, give one point to me, 'cause 1/3 of my theory about his origin turned out to be true, i.e. where's Erron from.

Before the kombat, as always, dialogues. Leatherface doesn't speak, but Erron does. And he said:

Nice to meet a fellow Texan!

I was so fucking surprised and happy in the same time, lol.

So, yeah, 1/3 of my theory turned out to be true. The other two about :

1) Did he fight in the Civil war?

2) How Erron became an Outworlder?

Actually, the first one can be a truth easily , 'cause there's a lot of evidences and banal logic, lol.

In general, my theory and my opinion. Not 100% true, however it has right to be.
